Intel Expands Into Portable Gaming Hardware

Intel is intensifying its focus on gaming technology by unveiling a new chip and platform tailored for handheld gaming devices.

Announced by Daniel Rogers, Intel’s vice president and general manager of PC products, during CES, this upcoming platform will combine both hardware and software elements. The foundation of the system is the Intel Core Series 3 processors, known as Panther Lake, which were introduced last year and are now being integrated into various PC models.

According to and confirmed by TechCrunch, this new platform will feature a processor specifically engineered for portable gaming consoles.

The Panther Lake series marks Intel’s debut of chips produced using its advanced 18A manufacturing process, which began mass production in 2025.

Intel has a long-standing presence in the gaming sector, having supplied processors for gaming PCs since the 1990s. The company further strengthened its commitment to gaming in 2022 with the launch of its Intel Arc graphics cards.

Venturing into the handheld gaming market represents a significant move for Intel, especially as AMD currently leads this space. During its CES keynote, AMD introduced the Ryzen 7 9850X3D processor for gaming PCs, along with new advancements in ray tracing and graphics technology.

Rogers mentioned that additional information about Intel’s handheld gaming products will be revealed later in the year.
