YouTube Introduces Personalized Year-End Recap for Main Platform
As the year draws to a close, many companies are unveiling their own versions of annual recaps, similar to Spotify Wrapped, allowing users to reflect on their most-engaged content. YouTube, which has previously offered a recap for its Music app, has now announced a dedicated year-in-review experience for videos watched on its main platform.
The new YouTube Recap presents up to a dozen custom cards, each spotlighting highlights such as your favorite channels, top interests, shifts in your viewing patterns, and even a personality type assigned based on your watching habits.
For example, users who frequently watch educational content may be labeled as “Skill Builders,” while those who prefer uplifting videos might be called “Sunshiners.” If you’re drawn to innovative and unconventional content, you could be categorized as a “Trailblazer.”
Other personality types available include “Wonder Seeker,” “Connector,” and “Dreamer,” among several others.
In addition to video insights, users can view their most-played artists and songs of the year. For a more detailed breakdown of music preferences, the YouTube Music app offers its own annual Recap, which began rolling out last week.

The Recap feature is now available for YouTube users in North America, with a worldwide release expected within the week. You can access your Recap directly from the YouTube homepage or by navigating to the “You” tab, whether you’re on a mobile device or desktop.
YouTube shared that this feature was developed in response to user feedback, with over 50 different concepts tested before finalizing the current version.
Alongside Recap, YouTube has also published trend charts that highlight the year’s most popular creators, podcasts, and songs.
- MrBeast claimed the top creator spot for the sixth consecutive year.
- “The Joe Rogan Experience” was recognized as the leading podcast.
- Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga’s “Die With A Smile” topped the song charts.
The launch of YouTube Recap coincides with the release of Apple Music’s Replay and Amazon Music’s Delivered, while Spotify’s much-anticipated Wrapped has yet to debut. This suggests that platforms are eager to encourage users to share their year-end highlights on social media ahead of the competition.
